Jee Young Moon
|Jee Young Moon, a yoga alliance E-RYT200 teacher, has been practicing and teaching yoga for a decade. She began practicing in 2000 to help her body recover from knee surgery and chronic back pain. Her teacher in Seoul, Jong-Geon Kim, was a qi-gong master that integrated Korean and Taoist ideas into his yoga with an emphasis on gi and the danjeon. Jee began teaching in 2002 with a healed body and an interest in the roots of yoga practice and philosophy.
Jee’s search for a mentor and deeper learning moved her around the world. She attended international workshops in Thailand and Hong Kong in 2006 where she met the Ashtanga teacher Stephen Thomas and the Anusara teacher Patrick Creelman. She met them again the next year in Sri Lanka and again in Taipei where she completed her Yoga Alliance International Certification with Thomas, Creelman, Niel Baker, and Frank Jude Boccio.
Jee Young moved to Singapore in the Fall of 2007 and began working for True Yoga at Raffles Place and on Orchard Road. In Singapore she met the teachers she considers most influential to her practice among many great teachers: Aadil Palkhivala, Tias Little, and Sarah Powers. Jee’s yoga, while informed by Buddhist and Taoist perspectives, is strongly based in anatomy and alignment and draws inspiration from these teachers.
After a few years in Singapore working for yoga companies, large and small, Jee returned to her home in Seoul to be with her family. She worked for some large fitness centers there for a time before finally moving to St. Louis in September of 2010 with her husband and three cats.
